What rare treasures might you find at the Oct. 14 Flemington Flea? Your last opportunity for 2018 will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Since it debuted in June, Flemington Flea has proven to be not just a sale but an adventure. Shoppers have found rare and unusual items — one man found a circa 1900 serving platter to give as a wedding gift. There’s little chance the bride and groom would get any gift just like it. Others have found rare coins and toys as well as more modern locally created artwork and country crafts.
If you are not in the market for wedding gifts, it’s not too early to get started on holiday shopping!
Aside from the stores already in town, antique and flea market dealers from around the region will display their wares. Musicians will also serenade visitors and local stores conduct sidewalk sales. If you get hungry, there are many places to eat. If you get tired, there are the Adirondack chairs painted by local artists to rest in.
The Hunterdon County Historical Society will also be selling rare books and maps. This year’s sale includes some original editions and several rare books such as:
George Washington’s Last Will and Testament,1800; African Game Trails by Teddy Roosevelt, 1910 first ed.; The Gardener’s Kalendar, 1760; and The Marvelous Musical Prodigy, Blind Tom, the negro Boy Pianist, 1876. Also included in the sale are many genealogies, travel pamphlets, advertising cards, school books and almanacs.
While in town, be sure to check out the other shops for special promotions.
